Campers Paradise
In the winter of 1995 Mike & Andrea Steele along with their two boys Andy, 7 and Adam, 13 made a decision of a lifetime. They purchased Campers Paradise Campground in Sigel, PA. They gave up the comfortable lifestyle for the rural serenity of the great American outdoors of Western Pennsylvania. The campground had a small store, a bathhouse and 24 sites.
Tired of the corporate bureaucratic process, Mike walked away from a 28-year career as a superintendent in the coal mining industry. The Steeles sold their beautiful historical Victorian home in Indiana, PA. Twelve years restoring their award winning turn of the century dream home. Andrea never imagined selling their home but when it was put on the market it had sold in less than a week.
The big move happened in January. Most of the family’s belongings were put in storage, and the family took up residence in a 30’ camper behind the campground’s small one-room general store. With the support, time and hardwork of Mike & Andrea’s families made the change seem a little easier. Sub zero temperature, snow, sleet and no running water all added to a self-inflicted hardship, but it was a decision that was made. Living out of the camper and the one room store, carrying drinking water from a nearby spring, and bundling up every morning for the ride to the campground’s bathhouse were now all part of everyday life.
The boys would be raised with the values of hard work, with respect for nature, and knowing the importance of family.
Seventeen years later the family has grown a successful business. Campers Paradise now offers a large and fully supplied Outpost for all your outdoor needs, 118 sites, 8 cabins (5 with private hot tubs), pool, gameroom, pavilion, pizza & ice-cream shop, authentic tipi and covered wagon rentals and extensive playground and outdoor sports area. All this is surrounded by an abundance of both winter and summer outdoor activities.
