What happens when you have your awning out in a rain storm...
This is what happens when you have your awning out on the camper in a rain storm and a Micro Burst comes through...
My wife and I (WildFlower) were out camping with her parents a few years back at Pymatuning State Park...
We were in our camper waiting out the storms, and her parents and Grandmother were in their camper...
All of the sudden it got really windy and started to rain like I have never seen rain before...
Then BANG... the whole camper shook... I jumped up off the bed, and noticed our awning had collapsed straight down the outside of the camper...
I couldnt see out the windows or open the door, I thought a tree branch came down on us as much as it shook...
I had to get a steak knife out of the drawer and cut out around the door so I could get out...
Turns out it just rained so hard the awning couldnt get rid of it fast enough...
I even had one side lowered to accommodate the rains as usual...
Was a crazy Experience... Here is a few pictures of our crashed awning...
Luckily our insurance company took care of us for it...
If you think it has the potential for heavy rains... Just a word of caution... Wind it in... Not worth going through the trouble of replacing a RV awning on you camper for something that can be prevented...
I never dreamed it would collapse our awning like that...

Wow alot of weight when water starts collecting on top of a awning. Seen the wind get a hold of one up in Tioga about 3 years ago blew it over top the roof of a camper. Felt bad for the people it was only there 2nd time out with there brand new camper.

That is why we recommend rolling those awnings up, be it a manual awning or a new power awning. If a severe rainstorm is a-coming roll them up. Does not take long, and saves you and your insurance adjuster a lot of work later.
