I just saw the latest Lerch RV flyer and saw a new camper that said " NO slider hitch needed"....so could someone educate me and tell me first what is a slider hitch and second , what makes it unnecessary with that type of camper.....how does it hook up I guess is my question?

So does that mean you can just use the regular hitch under your bumper ? I bet that sounds like a dumb question huh ? LOL

A 5th wheel is the kind that mounts in the bed of the truck.

No... a slider hitch is a fifth wheel hitch in the bed of your truck that is positioned forward over the wheels when towing, then when you get where you need to cut it tight to get it into a spot, you pull a handle apply the brakes on the trailer and pull the truck forward. The hitch then slides to the back of the bed on rails and allows you to cut it tighter without fear of denting the cab of the truck.

Hope this helps.

Oh now it makes sense....adn I assume then if no slider hitch is needed it would mean that there is enough clearance at the gooseneck design of the camper that you dont need to have slider hitch , right ?

Correct... It projects forward a bit so that here is no clearance issues.

I'm sorry for the delay... Ranger you are correct in your description. A slider hitch is a type of fifth wheel hitch. Almost every truck that is purchased on today's market is every an extended cab/super cab or a crew cab/quad cab truck with a bed of 6'6" or shorter. A truck of this type requires the purchase and use of a fifth wheel hitch that slides to create clearance in tight cornering conditions. This will keep the cab of your truck and the back window in one piece when turning or hitching up in extreme angles. A full size bed on a truck, an 8' bed, does not require a slider style hitch. A traditional fifth wheel hitch would be all that you need.

The Open Range Light is designed to be towed with that 6' 6" or shorter bed without the use of a sliding fifth wheel hitch. It was originally designed to be towed with a 5' 5" short bed half ton Ford F150 pick up. So that is where the 'No Slider Hitch' necessary ad comes from.
