We blew a tire on the turnpike on the way to Buttonwood two years ago. We've replaced all the tires, made sure the date on them was within the last year, using tire covers, parking on gravel that drains, checking tire pressures regularly. Just had camper inspected 4/2014. And our first trip out we blow a tire on the way home on I 78.

This is our third blow out on the camper. I have to admit this is starting to really stress me out. I've been reading other threads (mostly on the Sunline forum), but we aren't qualified to do major mods ourselves. Is there a shop that anyone can recommend that really 'gets' these tire issues? We are in Royersford, Montgomery County, I am willing to travel up to about an hour radius to get some serious help.

Where do we start? A D level tire? Which I think requires new rims?

Two of the blowouts were the same tire on, the third was the other axle other side of camper.

a dry weight of 4155 and a GVWR of 7000

I really doubt you have a issue with the camper I think it's just a matter of bad tires, the mission tires that came on my sunline started to develop big bubbles in the sidewalls, switched to other tires and never had a problem after that. My buddy also had a problem with his camper from new where he would wear out his left rear and right front tire within 1000 miles(Carlisle tires)so we measured everything on his camper(I'm an auto body tech so have access to frame measuring tools) and it measured within specs,he replaced the Carlisle tires with goodyear marathons and also never had a problem after that.Unfortunately the mission tires don't have have the best track record and I would bet that they are your only problem, also with those C rated tires and a gvwr of 7000lbs that is pushing the limit of those tires, when replacing tires I would go with D rated tires just for a little comfort zone.If you ever want to take a camping trip close to home to Warwick Woods campground I'm there every weekend and would gladly measure the camper for you.

Thanks for the info!

I am strongly leaning towards going with the D tires

We've never gone to Warwick woods, I don't think they have pull throughs, do they?

I was guessing the C rating was an issue. Just from researching tires a few weeks ago, this thread had my interest. Glad everyone is safe after the blowout.
Also, you mentioned it happened on 78. Just out of curiosity, when you go to that area, which way do you go?

Really need to get my blogs back up to date

We did a tour of Warwick woods today and noted several sites that will work for us. Thanks for the tip!

Saw your pics the day before we left for Gatlinburg Tennessee pulling the camper. I worried the whole time. We just got home yesterday and had no issues at all with tires or axles heating up. It was really nice to camp in the Smokey Mountains. ...in our own camper

Hi all in this tread...

I need to chime in about the blown tires... we have a 2011 Passport Ultralight Limited edition that we bought brand new (3220BH). We have owned it for 4 years and have had a passenger front tire blow out 4 times now... same side, same tire... we have had rims replaced each time the tire blew out, and even had the axel replaced after the second blow-out because it was found that it was bent and still no safety... Keystone claims it isn't their problem. The dealer claims they have "never heard of such a thing"... we looked into "D" rated tires but they are tough to find in a 205/75R14 because supposedly "C" rated tires exceed the axel specifications. Did find some Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D but they are pricey... So here we are with a fairly new camper (and payment) and my wife feeling like we are placing our lives at risk on every trip. We watch the tire pressure, don't put anything but food, clothes, and cooking items in the camper, and the tires that have blown out have less than 1 years use on them... It has happened twice on Route 15, once on route 78, and once at a campground (believe it or not). Any suggestions or insight would be helpful.
