I know it's only February, and the meteorologists are currently calling for a substantial snowfall in the next few days, but I've been thinking a lot about camping and spending evenings sitting around a fire with friends and family.

With that in mind, thought it might be a good idea to remind everyone of the quarantine areas in the state regarding transporting firewood. The following link will take you to Pennsylvania DCNR's site and discusses this issue in more detail than I can type here.

Let's help save the forest in these areas by not transporting this beetle into areas that don't currently have them. thumbs

I saw last year at a few campgrounds campers were questioned by rangers about the fire wood that they had on there sites. They wanted to know where the wood was from.We saw one instance where they told on family they had to burn all their wood with in 24 hours.

It was getting (and probably still is) bad around PA...

Alot of places we went to wouldnt let us bring wood in at all..

It could get expensive real quick if you have to pay for it by the arm load at some of the campgrounds...

Has this always been a problem or just the last few years? Is there anything being done about it?

A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

I think these have just recently became a problem in PA...

I think they were initially imported into new york through shipping containers and they got a hold there...

From NY they then traveled in wood products being shipped to other states, and now we have them...

They bore into the trees and that is why they dont want you moving firewood around a whole bunch, they will get a FREE ride wherever you take them.

Just a royal pain in the butt...
