Hey there Fireside... I saw somewhere they were to start mixing Urea (sp?) with the fuel in the new GMC's... Whats up with that? When will this start? I saw some nice GMC Crew Cabs Diesels on your lot last week, was wondering if they already have it... Let me know what the deal is... Has anyone else heard of this yet ? Tom

I have been doing some reading on this lately and the new Sierra, silverado, and super duty require the urea to meet emissions regulations. The urea is sprayed into the exhaust after it leaves the catalytic converter. The fluid needs refilled at about every 5000 miles for GM and 7500 miles for Ford. pulling heavy loads does use the urea faster. A reminder light flashes on GM with 1000 miles or fewer remain. If you run out your speed is limited to 4mph. The Ford light comes on at 800 miles or less and if you run out you are limited to idle. The dodge does not require urea and i am not sure why. It must meet emmision standard without and maybe because it is a V6. Sound like a hasle but it is one of those things you get use to and then it is second nature. GM, Ford, and Dodge will all have new designed heavy-duty trucks this year. Dodge is out now, Ford this month, and GM in the fall. Thsi is because of new diesel regs that took effect Jan. 1. The new reg. required 80 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide from the tailpipe. In the 3500 Gm and Ford will tow 16,000 pounds and the Dodge Ram will tow 12,000.

I think most people will carry a gallon with them just in case. At 4 mph it could take a while to get to some urea. Ford just said it would idle, so im not exactly sure what that means. When i get more info i will post it.
