Fellas i pulled camper out tonight to roll down awning and let dry out from previous trip. Anyways i seem to be having a common problem. I have a devil of a time unhooking from the camper. I crank it up and cant get ball to come out. I jerk truck backwards and forwards. ITs kinda embarrassing at a campground. Do i just need to give it a good greasing?

I'm assuming you are releasing the coupler entirely. If so, it sounds to me like it is getting hung up on something and not disengaging. Maybe there is some dirt/grime up in there causing it to catch? If you have access to compressed air, I would try to blow it up into the coupler and see if it dislodges anything. JMO. alittle wd40 or a little grease should take care of it. also, if there is an adjustment on the coupler, that may need adjusting too.

That is where I would start. If you can't simply move the latch on the trailer when the truck is not hooked to it that is probably your problem. P.B. Blaster makes a white lithium grease that works well.

can't seem to edit so I'll add this. Get a can of brake fluid, and blast the heck out of the moving hitch parts to rinse out all the dirt first.

Latch isnt a problem - that slides right out. When i crank trailer jack down to ground i cant get camper to come off the ball. I sprayed it down good tonight so we'll see this weekend.

sometimes what i do is stand on the hitch of the truck too. when it doesn't come off, do u have to get up under there with a screw driver to pry the latch mechanism?

No Crasher as i said the latch isnt a problem. Its like the ball is an 1/8th to big. I cleaned her up good tonight so we'll see how she works.

another thing u could try, is whenever u stop ur camper where u want it, put the truck in reverse to let it creep back a smidge. i've seen where just the tension on the hitch will keep it from coming off. just a thought.

It sounds like the hitch needs adjusted a little bit.

I agree that you need to grease the ball and loosen the coupler ever so slightly

What year is the trailer...

I have seem some older trailers that the trailer coupler has 'stretched' or become misshaped....

This might be cause the problem with it no coming out of there easily...

I would take a ball, or take yours off your hitch, lay on the ground and try it out...

Look and see where it is touching, what is keeping it from moving in and out easily...

Might just be something that needs a little reshaping...

I had a similar problem,I ended up trying a diffrent ball and worked fine after that.The ball I took of was about 6 years old and was beat up pretty bad.

I was able to fix this problem. I just spray the ball and coupler with PB blaster every trip and works like a charm.

I HAVE TOWED VARIOUS TRAILERS OVER MANY YEARS BUT ALWAYS THOUGHT A BALL IS A BALL... BULL ! I ALWAYS HAD ALOT OF RATTLE WHEN TOWING MY FLAT DECK TRAILER AND JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE RAMP GATE RATTLING. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW RECEIVER WITH A NEW BALL AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! NO RATTLES! LEARNED SOMETHING,CHANGE OUT YOUR BALL EVERY SEVERAL YEARS THEY DO WEAR OUT.
