We just bought a used pop-up. On the first trip with it, I followed my son while he was towing it. It swayed a lot. Is there any way to fix this? Maybe weight distribution in the camper. Wider tires?

Hey there BT...

Could be one of many things...

Could be overloaded even... Too much weight?

Maybe too much weight unevenly stowed...

Could be under inflated or under sized tires...

Was the camper level looking when attached to the hitch?

Was the tow vehicle cable of handling the weight?

Ant other ideas guys?

A lot of time swaying in a pop up camper is due to not packing properly. More weight needs to be in front of the axle.

If it has surge brakes, you will not be able to add any weight distribution or sway control.

What is he towing with?

When we first got our Coleman popup I had a shortbed reg. cab Ford. The trailer had the large storage box in the front. I could not get enough weight in there to stop the swaying. I installed a sway control bar, and problem solved.

Not trying to sound like a smart alec (I usually save that for around the campfire in in the shout box) but how fast are you driving? I had a pop up go by me on the way home from Raystown a couple weeks ago going at least 75. Everytime he passed a truck he would start swaying to the point that he looked like he was going to lose it. I slowed down a little more to give myself time to react in case something happened.

We're camping. The journey to and from is supposed to be part of the fun. Arrive at your destination safely.

Thanks to all for the advice. First I'll try distributing the weight differently. If that doesn't work, I'll go with a sway bar. Any suggestions on where to purchase a sway bar? By the way, the swaying started at 50 mph.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. It was a simple fix-packed more weight toward the front of the camper.
