I've gone hiking tons of times with my dog, but this will be the first time camping with her.

Anything I should be aware of?

Couple of questions first.

What are you staying in? Tent? Camper? Under the stars?

Where are you going? Private campground? State Park? National Forest?

A lot of us camp with our dogs all the time, but we need a little more info. to be able to better answer your question.

Good questions Washpa. I'll share what we do with our 3 dogs. Hope it will help. First of all, make sure your dog is up to date with her shots, license and tags: some camp grounds wont let u in unless u have all that info. We've found that Prince Gallitzin is the most strict about dogs! We take two food and water bowls: one set for outside and one set for inside the camper. Make sure to take the food bowl outside IN at night or the raccoons will love you. We have two leashes: one to walk her and one long one to tie her up on the site. We bring bug spray for her and I pack a doggie first aid kit (benadryl, wipes,vaseline-for tics, Advatage-flea and tic control, ear medication- when our lab swims, her ears sometimes get infected, burn ointment,). poop bags and little shovel. we also bring those flurescent kid necklaces that glow in the dark at night- I put them on out dogs so we can see them- I also have a blinking little light that attaches to her collar. we bring dog toys, our lab's camping chair, food, bones and bottled water- I dont trust the camp water but that's me- we treat our dogs like kids: lol! Dog blankets, sweaters and a portable pen for the camper- we dont let the dogs run when we leave them in the air conditioned camper.. we try not to leave them for long periods either. we take tupperware containers for food and water if we are going on a day trip- the dogs actually have their own packed doggie bag with all essentials. We try to keep their routine the same: same feeding times, sleep, and bathroom breaks so they dont get off schedule too bad but its hard to do when camping. Be prepared that camp grounds are stimulating: kids screaming, riding bikes, running around, wanting to pet the dogs, other dogs barking and walking, vehicles and sometimes firecrackers. Watch for spoiled food or garbage that the dogs do not get into it. We take their dog shampoo in case they get muddy and need hosed off-extra towels. thats about all I can think of right now... hope it helps-- we LOVE camping with our dogs and they love camping too!!!!Have fun and good luck!

Sorry for the lack of information..its a private campground in NJ. We will be in a tent. I'm thinking about crating her in the car though at night..

Thanks for the information Wildflower!

Let me know how it works out!! any other questions just let us know....

She is a Labrador/Weim, about 6 months old. She is crated in the car when we are driving places, but never without supervision and she's crated at home in the same crate as well.

Crating her in the car is a last resort, depending on how she acts in the tent.

I'm sure she'll be so tired she'll sleep fine with us.

WiLd FlOwEr you have great ideas thanks. First time RVer's and taking our 2 dogs was better than expected. I love the glow necklace idea.
