I didn't have enough cant on my awning during one of the hard rains this summer and got a pool of water that bent my awning roller. any ideas on how to take it apart,straighten it, put it back together and wind it up safely.thanks.

Usually a bent main roller is grounds for a replacement. Might save you a headache in the end. Also did the awning arms bend/contract at all? If so, the awning manufacturers suggest replacing them as well.

the arms are ok.the roller has a 6 to 8 inch bow not a sharp bend.i'm retired so i have more time than money so i try to fix stuff if i can.since the roller has to come off to be replaced i figured i'd try to staighten it before buying a new one.can you tell me how to rewind the spring? the lesson i learned is that if you have friends over 6 ft tall don't raise the low side of the awning for them,let them keep bumping their heads until they lean to duck.

I will have to get you directions on the awning spring rewind from one of our techs...however I do not think they use the method that you described. Since we might have only one tech over 6' tall. :)
