Biscuits and Gravy ! ! !

Biscuits and Gravy ! ! ! - 09/10/09 04:50 PM

My Wife makes biscuits and gravy when we go out camping.
You have to have a camper with an oven though for the biscuits!

She makes the Gravy at Home before we pack up and go...

She Uses:

2 lbs Sausage (Ground) Brown This

Then add (2) Packs of Sausage Gravy Mix
(Just Follow the directions on the packs, varies by brand a little)

Then she refrigerates it and takes it with us.

In the morning camping then, she buys those biscuits in a can.

Bake them according to the instruction on the can...

Good hot biscuits and gravy for breakfast! YUMMY !

Let me know if anyone tries it or also does the same...

I do mine a tad different.

2 cups milk
1/2 c flour
two jimmy dean sausage rolls
1/4 stick butter
pepper
jar with a lid
Pillsbury Grands biscuits ( make them the day before you leave and store in a container or a large ziplock baggie.

Brown and crumble the sausage with the butter. Mix the flour and milk in a jar and shake it to death to make sure it is thoroughly mixed. Stir in flour mixture until thickened.
Heat the biscuits in the microwave or if you dont have one, wrap in tin foil and throw them on the grid over the fire to warm them. If you dont have a morning fire, dont worry, the gravy will heat the biscuits just fine.

Pour the gravy over the biscuits and voila!

Pretty much the same as the original post...just a variation.

My recipe is similar to HappyCamper2's...it is so easy to make the gravy. I have never tried the gravy mix. Since it is usually only 2 or 3 of us, I divide the sausage gravy into smaller containers and freeze it so I always have some ready to go.

I have done the biscuits over the campfire in my dutch oven. You just have to watch they don't burn on the bottom. If they start to get too done on the bottom but not done on the top, just flip them over.

This thread is making me hungry for breakfast cooked over a campfire!

a round wire cake cooling rack from the dollar store will raise what ever you are baking in the dutch oven enough that the bottom won't burn as easy.
